Samurai Champloo

Synopsis Set in an alternate Edo Period of Japan, Samurai Champloo follows the journey of Mugen, Fuu, and Jin in an epic quest full of action, comedy, and dynamic sword fighting, all set to the beat of a unique hip-hop infused soundtrack.

The soundtrack alone is great— innovative theme for an anime. Pretty short series, good writing, memorable character designs, and a long lasting reputation.
genres: action, adventure, comedy, sci-fi

Outlaw Star

Synopsis Seihou Bukyou Outlaw Star follows Gene and his ragtag crew as they brave the final frontier, navigating the stars in search of answers to the mysteries surrounding Melfina. Encountering dangerous bounty hunters, space pirates, Taoist mages, and even catgirls, there is sure to be an exhilarating adventure around every corner.

Hidden behind the shadow of Cowboy Bebop lies this anime and gosh do I love the designs and aesthetics. Gene Starwind hit every checkmark in my teen heart for a character I knew I'd like.
genres: action, adventure, comedy, sci-fi

Star Blazers: Space Battleship Yamato 2199

Synopsis Earth's once green hills and rich blue oceans have been converted into a desolate wasteland by the relentless onslaught of planet bombs from the expansionist Gamilas Empire. By the year 2199, humankind has retreated to the depths of underground cities to escape the radiation.

This is my most recent watch as of posting all the anime on this page. The soundtrack was wonderful and the story is a timeless classic revamped to be a bit modern. Some parts were rushed but overall, the highs of this anime were sky-high.
genres: action, drama, sci-fi

Sabikui Bisco

Synopsis An apocalyptic event has ravaged Japan, leaving nothing but endless sandy plains behind, and a strange rusting disease terrorizes the remnants of civilization. According to the government, the horrific state of the new world is the result of mushroom spores being spread by the likes of Bisco Akaboshi, labeled the "Man-Eating Mushroom."

Pure anime fun. Interesting premise and awesome designs. I will admit that by the time I finished this, I thought I had accidentally watched a Boy's Love anime though.
genres: action, adventure, fantasy, sci-fi

Dragon Ball Z: Fusion Reborn

Synopsis An unsuspecting custodian transforms into Janemba, a yellow demon who wreaks havoc throughout the afterlife. Soon, Janemba's chaos draws Goku and fellow combatant Pikkon toward him, forcing the pair to figure out a way to defeat the giant monster.

I love only 2 Dragon Ball movies. This one and the Super: Broly movie. Vegeta shows his tsundere side and agrees to finally become Gogeta with Goku.
genres: action, adventure, fantasy, sci-fi, comedy

Dragonball Super: Broly

Synopsis King Vegeta noticed a baby named Broly whose power exceeded that of his own son. Believing that Broly's power would one day surpass that of his child, Vegeta, the king sends Broly to the desolate planet Vampa. Broly's father Paragus follows after him, however, his ship gets damaged. This causes the two to spend years trapped on Vampa, unaware of the salvation that would one day come.

I love only 2 Dragon Ball movies. This one and Fusion Reborn. This was my first introduction into the Dragon Ball series; I didn't like it prior but this one persuaded me.
genres: action, adventure, fantasy

Mob Psycho 100

Synopsis Eighth-grader Shigeo "Mob" Kageyama has tapped into his inner wellspring of psychic prowess at a young age. But the power quickly proves to be a liability when he realizes the potential danger in his skills. Choosing to suppress his power, Mob's only present use for his ability is to impress his longtime crush, Tsubomi, who soon grows bored of the same tricks.

My heart ached so much for Mob to make it far. For Reigen to see what he needed to see through Mob. The animation and sountrack stuck with me so much. This one's on a lot of people's lists but it deserves it.
genres: action, comedy, supernatural

Initial D First Stage

Synopsis Takumi Fujiwara, the son of a tofu shop owner, is tasked to deliver tofu every morning without fail, driving along the mountain of Akina. Thus, conversations regarding cars or driving in general would only remind Takumi of the tiring daily routine forced upon him.

So classic and I can understand why. It's just driving but it has me on the edge of my seat anyways. You know whats going to happen 90% of the time but it doesn't matter.
genres: action, drama

FLCL

Synopsis Naota Nandaba is an ordinary sixth grader living in a city where nothing amazing ever seems to happen. After his brother Tasuku leaves town to play baseball in America, Naota takes it upon himself to look after everything Tasuku left behind—from his top bunk bed to his ex-girlfriend Mamimi Samejima, who hasn't stopped clinging to Naota since Tasuku left.

This one is just pure chaos and nostalgia for me. I don't think I've watched it properly since I was in highschool but I remember liking it a lot for what it's worth.
genres: mecha, parody, psychological

Trigun

Synopsis Vash the Stampede is the man with a $$60,000,000,000 bounty on his head. The reason: he's a merciless villain who lays waste to all those that oppose him and flattens entire cities for fun, garnering him the title "The Humanoid Typhoon." In actuality, Vash is a huge softie who claims to have never taken a life and avoids violence at all costs.

The original Trigun has a slower pace but it just can't be beat for the writing and fun it is. Wolfwood on top.
genres: action, adventure, sci-fi

Trinity Blood

Synopsis Following Armageddon, mankind faces yet another menace: vampires. The continuous confrontations between the races have split the world into separate factions. The race of vampires, Methuselah, are affiliated with the New Human Empire; whereas the humans, deemed Terrans by the vampires, make up the Vatican Papal State. Furthermore, extremist groups like the Rosenkreuz Order strive to rekindle a war.

Such a huge inspiration to me growing up. The vampires, the catholicism, the vampire that preys on other vampires. The music was very good too. It's got some funky 3d work in it too. The full package.
genres: action, fantasy, sci-fi

Nichijou

Synopsis Daily lives of high school students may seem a commonplace concept, but that certainly does not apply to the trio at Tokisadame High. For Yuuko Aioi and her two eccentric friends, every day is a unique experience. From stumbling across a wrestling match between the principal and a deer to indulging in a chopstick battle over a sausage—the excitement never ends.

This one loses me at some points because of Japanese specific humor that falls on my deaf ears but otherwise this is such a good comfort watch for me.
genres: comedy, gag humor, school

Beware as the anime below contain extremely NSFW themes.

Devilman: Crybaby

Synopsis Devils cannot take form without a living host. However, if the will of an individual is strong enough, they can overcome the demon and make its power their own, becoming a Devilman.

Remastered for a good time. Some awesome depictions and symoblism to digest. The iconic animation scenes that take smear frames to a new world.
genres: gore, mythology

Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt

Synopsis The "Anarchy Sisters," Panty and Stocking, have been kicked out of Heaven for "misbehaving". Led by a priest named Garterbelt, these angels must buy their way back by exterminating ghosts with unconventional weapons for these unorthodox angels— they transform their lingerie into weapons to dispatch the spirits.

The art style and colors have been so influential to my own art style for years. Thematically there are some episodes that aren't my favorite but I still enjoy watching it yearly at least.
genres: action, comedy, fantasy, ecchi
